James Riley Iori, 65, of 540 E. 24th St., Pittsburg, died at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at his home.

He was born Aug. 23, 1938, at Pittsburg, to Pierre Sylvester "Pete" and Doris Marie Riley Iori.

He was a lifelong resident of Pittsburg. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Pittsburg in 1956 and attended Pittsburg State University.

Mr. Iori served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960, attaining the rank of lance corporal. He served in the Pittsburg Police Department for five years, retired after 30 years of service with the Pittsburg Post Office as a postal clerk; was a flight instructor for several years; was a music writer; and worked in wildlife rehabilitation with the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks.

Mr. Iori was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Frontenac and Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post 64 of Pittsburg.

He married Wilma Jean Tripp Eichhorn on April 6, 1962, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include four sons, John Steven Eichhorn of Maumelle, Ark., David Ray Eichhorn of Pittsburg, Michael Peter Iori of Pittsburg and James R. Iori II of Pittsburg; one brother, Gary Iori of Pittsburg; and six grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frontenac, with Fr. Robert McElwee as celebrant.

Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post 64 will conduct flag-folding ceremonies at the graveside. Parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, where the family will receive friends after the rosary until 8 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway.
