Charles D. Pickens, age 87, of Wildcat Road, Ireland, passed away Monday, November 5, 2007, at his home.

He was born August 8, 1920, at Wildcat, a son of the late John and Hettie Forinash Pickens. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alta Fisher Pickens in February 1976; and also two brothers, Hamp and Paul Pickens.

He is survived by his second wife, Helen Boggs Pickens of Ireland; two sons, Charles D. Pickens Jr. and Arthur Leonard Pickens, both of Ireland; five stepchildren, Shirley Sprouse and husband Stanley of Ireland, George "Sonny" Allman and wife Sharon of Crawford, James "Red" Allman and wife Eula Mae of Louisville, Ky., Susie Kinsinger and husband David of Canton, Ohio, and Beverly Oldaker and husband Junie of Weston; several grandchildren and step grandchildren.

Mr. Pickens was retired from Union Carbide, a veteran of WWII and was a member of the Elijah Chapel United Methodist Church at Duffy.

Friends were received at the Alkire Funeral Chapel in Ireland, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, where services will be held Wednesday, beginning at 1 p.m. with Rev. Doug Smailes officiating. Burial will follow at the Kincaid Cemetery on Buttermilk Road, Ireland.
