Rudy was born the son of Seymon Boykin and Rosie Lee [Sutton} Boykin.

Rudolph was a graduate of Dunbar High School in Livingston, Texas. He was an All-American in basketball and was the team captain. He lettered in football, baseball, and track and participated on three state championship teams at Dunbar. He also was active in the Drama Club and was a member of a "near" famous Barbershop Quartet. He was elected to the Dunbar Hall of Fame in 2000. He also attended Wiley College on a Basketball scholarship.

He is a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palms, three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving 21 years and was stationed in Kansas, Texas, Hawaii, Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. After retiring from the military Rudolph was a supervisor at Menzies Aviation at Bush International Airport in Houston, Texas for 20 years.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Fidelia Hernandez Boykin; mother, Rosie Lee Boykin; two sons, James Edward and Mario Valentino Boykin; two daughters, Melody ReJayne Allen and Felicia Boykin-Bosie; stepchildren, Helcia Rubio, Karla Diaz, Marlon Velesquez, and Karlos Velesquez; seven siblings, Roy Kemp, Jim Boykin (Joyce), Cecil Boykin (Amye), Vera Boykin, William Boykin, Carolyn White (Allen), and Jack Benny Boykin (Madelyn); niece, Janice Meeks; six grand- children, Gordy Bosie, III, Jordan Valentino Bosie, Dimitri Johnson, Arvia McNairy, Courtney Pierce; great grandchildren, Xavier, Kierra, Kaleb, Ariana, Ashley, Jesmin, Briana, Danny Gonzales, Stephanie Mendez, Jimmie Aguilar, and Julie Velesquez, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Rudy was preceded in death by his father and brothers, Kent and Fred.
