Y. G. “Jay” Hughes II of Midland, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2004.
He was born January 29, 1935, to Young Glenn Hughes and Mildred Rachel Smith Hughes in Pioneer, Texas, and was raised and educated there. On January 15, 1957, Jay married Glenda June Atwood in Cross Plains, Texas. For over 50 years Jay owned and operated numerous oil and oilfield service businesses in the West Texas area.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jo Clair Cullers.
Jay is survived by his wife, Glenda June Hughes of Midland, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Jeb and Andrea Hughes of Midland; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jeff Garner of Flower Mound, Texas; three grandchildren, Meagan and Amy Hughes and Sam Garner; two close cousins, James Alexander and his wife, Jean, and May Jones and her husband, D.P., all of Pioneer, Texas; many other family members and friends.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at Pioneer Cemetery in Pioneer, Texas, with the Reverend Bruce Stovall officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas.
Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association Greater West Texas Chapter, Mission Square, 4400 N. Big Spring, #C-32, Midland, Texas 79705, Home Hospice, 901 W. Missouri, Midland, Texas 79701 or the charity of one’s choice.
