Mac was the son of the late Angus and Dorothy MacLeod. He was raised in Brooklyn and in 1974 he came to the Troy area. He was educated at Wagner College and Hudson Valley Community College. Mac was a patrolman for the Troy Police Department for 21 years, retiring in 1996. He served as a patrolman, a juvenile detective, a court officer and an evidence technician. He was also a member and treasurer of the credit union of the Troy PBA.
