Lt. Colonel Frances M. Liberty, Army Nurse Corps, Ret. was the daughter of the late Lawrence J. and Anna Lavigne Liberty. In 1943, Frances enlisted in the U.S. Army and served her country as a nurse during World War II, the Korean War and later in the Vietnam War. During World War II, she served in field hospitals in England, Africa and Italy. During the Korean War, Frances rode the hospital trains, transporting wounded soldiers from mobile army surgical hospitals (MASH units) to various station hospitals. Later, Frances, also known as Colonel Libby served three tours of duty in Vietnam and was known as an expert on MASH units. She was the recipient of the Bronze Star medal. She retired in 1971 after 27 years of service to our country and settled in East Greenbush, NY.
