Marie Rooker Cox was born in Tippah County, MS, on October 30, 1922 to Melvin Sylvester Rooker, Sr. and Jewel Reed Clemmer. She was the oldest of seven children. She died Friday, February 3, 2012 at Quitman County Nursing Home in Marks.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, at West Marks Baptist Church with burial in Marks Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Most of her life was spent In Marks, MS where she and her late husband, Cecil Vester Cox, Sr. were parents to four children.

Marie was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a member of West Marks Baptist Church and taught Sunday School over 50 years.

She did volunteer work at Quitman County Nursing Home, past president of ' West Marks Homemakers Club, founder of a weekly prayer group that met at her home until she was unable to remain there.

Her hobbies were reading and studying God's Word, needlepointing, and talking on the telephone.

She and her husband owned and operated Cox Laundry & Cleaners in Marks for 25 years until retirement in 1985.

Many lasting friendships were developed "over the counter" at Cox Cleaners.

Mrs. Cox is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Martha Ann Cox; son, Cecil (Sonny Cox, Jr.; sisters Alta (Sissy) Cox and Mavis Bolton; brothers Jack Rooker and Lee Roy Rooker.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Cox Bishop and her husband Robert of Sumner; son Russell Cox of Memphis, TN; daughter-in-law, Susan Stevens Cox of Marks; sister, Mary Rooker (John) Osborne of Conyers, GA; brother, M. S. (Jamie) Rooker, Jr. of Ripley, MS; 5 grandchildren: Jason (Kitt) Bailey of Starkville; Tiffany Cox (Trip) Hawkins of Marks; Hunter (Ana) Cox of Madison; Melanie Marie Cox of Bay Minette, AL; and Clarke Bishop of San Francisco.

After entering the Marks Nursing Home over seven years ago, 5 great-grandchildren were born: Stella and Celia Marie Bailey, Salem and Sunny Rooker Hawkins, and Cade Cox.

She thoroughly enjoyed being entertained by them.

We celebrate her homegoing, and know she is with her Savior and loved ones that have gone before her. This is fulfillment of her desires when her earthly journey ended.

The family sincerely appreciates your love, prayers, and every act of kindness. A special thanks goes to the entire Quitman County Nursing Home staff who attended her with loving care.
