Lee Ella Boone Burgess died at age 91 January 18, 2008, in Nacogdoches, Texas. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Newton officiating. A private interment will be held before the service.

Lee Ella was born June 30, 1916, in Enterprise, Texas, to Jeptha Pounds Boone and Mary Sue Tillman Boone and was reared in Mount Selman, Texas. She lived most of her life in Nacogdoches. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 70 years, supporting it with her time, talent and gifts. She was an active volunteer in many organizations; one year she served as president of four different groups. She served on the first grand jury to seat women, was one of the first organizers for Mothers March in Nacogdoches and spearheaded the campaign to require smallpox inoculation for local schools. Before marrying, she taught school in Barsola, Texas. She attended Jacksonville Baptist College, Sam Houston State University, the University of Texas and Stephen F. Austin State University.

She is survived by son, Tim L. Burgess and wife, Mary Catherine, of Houston; daughter, Carolyn Matthews and husband, Guy, of Houston; daughter-in-law, Elaine Burgess Ashcroft of Nacogdoches; six granddaughters, three great-granddaughters and seven great-grandsons, Kelly Gerber and husband, Carl, and their sons, Jason and Jeff, of Annandale, Va.; Melinda Nelson and husband, Jack, of Fort Worth; Jennifer Loh and husband, Gary, and their sons, John, Joshua and Jack; Christi Rickel and husband, Cory, and their son, Chance, and daughter, Courtney; Heather Camfield and husband, Paul, and their son, Ramsey, and daughter, Carter Lee; Alison Transou and husband, Adam, and their daughter, Catherine Ella, all of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews, loving friends and special friends, Tammie Jarrell, Mollie Hall, Nita Bower, Rita Alvis and Carolyn Johnson. She also had a special place in her heart for her nephew, J.T. Boone.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Duran Burgess; a son, Carroll Louis Burgess; her parents; and six siblings. Pallbearers will be Gary Atkins, Paul Camfield, Carl Gerber, Gary Loh, Jack Nelson, John Ramey, Cory Rickel, Charles Stahl, Milton Moorer and Adam Transou.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church at 903 North Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75961. Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
