Ray and Ethel and three of their sons moved to Victorville in 1957 from Stanhope, Iowa, after farming for many years, off to the good life of California! Ray worked for Kaiser Perm in Lucerne Valley for 30 years as a miller, before retiring. They worshipped for many years at the First Baptist church in Hesperia.
Ray was the second oldest, out of nine children, born to Leo and Anne Schlachter. Three of his sisters are still living in Indiana and one brother, living in Sun City, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Ethel. She passed away in 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Betty Hill and her husband Bob, of Tucson, AZ., and four sons, David Schlachter and his Wife Jerry, of Mansfield, Arkansas; son John Schlachter and wife Lois, of Calimesa, CA; son, Mick Schlachter and wife Linda, of Cave Creek, AZ.; and son Jerry Schlachter and wife Linda, of Salem, OR.
Ray has 20 grand children, 54 great grand children and 38 great-great grand children.
Graveside services will be at Desert View Cemetery Saturday January 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. There will be a viewing at Victor Valley Mortuary on 11th St. in Victorville, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., graveside service immediately to follow.
On behalf of Ray and his family, we thank all of our loving friends and caregivers for the love and support all of you gave through these many years. And for our loving God and Father for blessings and peace. And for giving us a great Dad and Grandpa.
