In 1881, Gus made the decision to move south to Mexico and he started a livestock ranch near Musquiz, Coaluila, Mexico. The later children of Gus and Julia were all born there.
In 1907 lands owned by foreigners were expropriated by the Mexican government. The Dunn family were ordered to vacate their property.. They returned to Texas via Del Rio, Texas in Val Verde County. They lived there until 1915.. They moved to Torrance County, New Mexico that year. Gus had it mind to grow beans which were selling for a very good price at the time. Many others had the same thing in mind and the price being paid for beans dropped substantially. Gus made no money in the deal and the family moved back to Del Rio.
