Ingrid was one of several children born to Nils Bendikson Fjaerestad and his wife at Hopperstad, Vik i Sogn, Norway.

Ingrid's older brother, Ivar Nilson Fjaerestad (aka Ivar Nelson) had emigrated out of Norway ahead of her, and married in Wisconsin to a Norwegian girl from the same area they were raised in.

Ingrid's brother had a friend, Jon Hovey, also an immigrant from the same area, living in Wisconsin, who had lost his wife and expressed the hope of marrying again to someone from their Norwegian home. Jon learned Ingrid had not married and decided to go to his homeland to ask her to marry him. He courted her briefly and then asked her parents for permission to marry and take her to Wisconsin. After some discussion, permission was granted, and Ingrid married and moved to her new home in America.

Ingrid and Jon had several children, the youngest living to almost 100 years. They raised their children on the family farm close to Mondovi, Wisconsin.

Ingrid's great grandson, Joe Hovey (spellings varied) who lived to age 84, and died in 2017) created a family history booklet with photos of Ingrid, her husband and children, along with many special stories, documents and details.

Ingrid was my g.grandfather Bendik Johanneson Fjerstad's first cousin, their fathers were brothers.
