Article from Ft. Worth Star-Telegram Newspaper by Mike Menichini:

FW Officer dead at 57 had heart 'as big as Texas':
Fort Worth patrolman Floyd H. Davenport Jr. was as much a fixture at high society functions as white dinner jackets and black ties.
After years of providing security and crowd control for everything from debutante balls to concerts to the Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show, he became known as "The Society Policeman." Often as not, he traded his police department blue uniform for a black tuxedo to blend in with the occasion.
Sunday, the 32-year veteran of the Fort Worth Police Department died of cancer at All Saints Hospital. He was 57.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Chapel in Fort Worth. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
An officer with the city's traffic control division since March 1952, Davenport started taking jobs in crowd control a year later.
"He was extremely good at that," said Capt. C.L. Martin. "He could be firm, but at the same time he had a heart as big as Texas."
"Needless to say we're very sorry he had the illness and won't be with us next year," said W.R. Watt Jr., president and general manager of the Fat Stock Show. "He was very dedicated and did a tremendous job looking after the public for us."
In a February 1984 article in the Star-Telegram, Davenport said he took on the extra work because "it's something I really enjoy doing."
Davenport, of 1950 Columbus Ave. in Fort Worth, was a 1943 graduate of Technical High School. He served two years in the Navy in World War II.
He was a member of Boulevard Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Jo Ann Davenport of Fort Worth; three sons, Kirk Dale Davenport and Joe Larkin Davenport, both of Fort Worth, and Jimmie Millard Davenport of Deer Par, Texas; his father, Floyd H. Davenport of Fort Worth; one brother, Warren Monroe Davenport of Haltom City; one sister, Allene Cunningham of Richland Hills; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
