The Cagle Family moved from Abilene to Brownwood in 1946. Gene served in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska.
He was a Butcher by trade and had worked at Kings Grocery Store in Brownwood until he was forced to retire because of an injury. He lived in Brownwood most of his life. The last year or so of his life he had to move in with his twin sister Betty Jane. She cared for him until he had to go to a nursing home where he passed away. He is survived by his six children. He was twice divorced and single at the time of his death.
He will be missed and always loved by those who knew him. Nothing but good things can be said about this whole family.
Johnny Egger remembers: Gene was my brother in law and we shared lots of good times together. We would go fishing a lot or just hang out together. He always had a laugh to share with you and had lots of friends. I was proud to be his brother-in-law. I loved Gene and his whole family.
Savanah remembers: He was my uncle by marriage. When we were little he used to sing us kids a funny song called The Ham Bone. He would slap his legs in time to the tune and make us kids laugh and laugh. He was fun to be with and was always in a good mood. I miss him.
