The McLouth Times, Thursday 10 May 1923. p1

John Black was born September 1st, 1859, in the vicinity of Galesburg, Illinois, and departed this life at his home two and one half miles east of McLouth, Kansas, May 6th, 1923, at the age of sixty-three years, eight months, after a brief illness.

He came to Kansas with his parents in July 1871, and has been a resident here ever since. His father settled on the place where he lived in 1875 and he purchased the place after his father's death and had lived there for 29 years.

He was united in marriage to Easter Knowlton, December 22, 1884, and she passed away May 10, 1885. He was married again on October 3rd, 1887 to Sarah Elizabeth Cunningham, who preceded him in death, May 18, 1919. To this union five children were born, Andrew Black of Highland, Kansas, Mary E. Lobb of Kansas City, Kansas, Frank Black, Betty Black and Matt Black at home. Besides these of his own home he leaves to mourn their loss four grandchildren, two brothers, James and Matt Black, both of McLouth, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and will be greatly missed in the community.

After brief services at the house the cortege left for the final services at the U.B. church at 2 pm Tuesday with Rev. R.C. Conn in charge. Interment was made in the family lot at McLouth cemetery.
