Dudley Man Dies Sunday
John C. (Jack) Reed of Dudley passed away Sunday, September 13, 1964, about 9 a.m. at his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound from a 30-06 rifle.
He died in the basement of his home.
He was born September 10, 1928, in Dudley, the son of William W. and Theresa (McPhillips) Reed. He was married to Margaret Joyce Garner on June 30, 1952, at Winchester, Va. with the Rev. William E. Eisenberg officiating.
His wife survives along with his mother of Dudley and one daughter, Jackie, at home. Also surviving are these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Robert (Helen) Baughman of Saxton, William W. Reed, Jr., of Dudley, Donald J. Reed of College Park, Md., Mrs. John (Mary) Ciucci of Guam, Miss Theresa F. Reed of College Park, Md., Mrs. Thomas (Ada) Johnson of Saxton, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Weiser of Dudley, Robert P. Reed of Dudley, Edward P. Reed of College Park, Md., C. Daniel Reed of Dudley, and Genevieve A. Reed of Mount Aloysius.
He was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Marklesburg and the BPOE of Huntingdon. Mr. Reed was a graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School and was employed as a cement finisher with the Reliable Concreters in Hyattsville, Md. He was a member of the Cement Finishers Union in York. He was a veteran with services in the U.S. Army from April of 1947 until September of 1948.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 16, at the convenience of the family from the Masood funeral chapel in Saxton. The Rev. Paul Marsden will officiate. Interment wil be made in the Methodist Cemetery in Dudley. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 7 until 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
