W. W. Reed, Dudley Coal Operator, Dies
William Wilkinson Reed, 68, of Dudley, prominent Broad Top area resident and founder and operator of the coal company bearing his name, died at his home on Saturday, July 27, 1963, at 1 p.m. He had been ill for the past ten years.
Reed was associated with his father in the coal business for several years until 1921 when he established the W. W. Reed Coal Company and operated it until he became ill. the company is still in operation.
He was a life member of the B.P.O.E. No. 976 in Huntingdon and was a member of the Methodist church in Dudley.
The deceased was born in Dudley on December 16, 1894, the son of William W. and Catherine (Donelson) Reed. He was united in marriage to Theresa McPhillips.
Surviving in addition to his wife are the following children: Mrs. Robert (Helen) Baughman of Saxton, William W. Reed, Jr., of Dudley, Donald J. of Washington, D.C., John C. of Dudley, Mrs. John (Mary) Ciucci of Niagara Falls, Miss Theresa F. Reed of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Thomas (Ada) Johnson of Saxton, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Weiser of Dudley, Robert P. of Dudley, Edward P. in the U.S. Army at Fort Dix, N.J., C. Daniel Reed of Dudley and Miss Genevieve Reed of Dudley.
Also surviving are nineteen grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Ada Hanawalt of Dudley.
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church in Dudley on Tuesday, July 30, at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. James Taylor officiating. Interment will be made in the Methodist Cemetery at Dudley. Friends may call at the late home until 12 noon on Tuesday and at the church after 1:30 p.m. Funeral arrangements are being directed by Masood funeral service in Saxton.
The Huntingdon Elks will hold a memorial service at 8 p.m. this Monday evening at the Reed home.
