J R was a master gardener and sharp shooter. His hobbies included working on classic cars, watching and, on occasion, participated in drag racing. He was employed for many years as a long haul truck driver which gave him the opportunity to travel around the country. J R also worked as a deputy for the Guadalupe County Sheriff Department for 8 years. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
J R is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 55 years, Lorraine Anna Lehmann; a son, Johnny Lee Kight, 5 brothers and his 2 loving four-legged children, Lady and Chelsea.
He is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann Maples with husband Danny of Seguin, TX; two sons, Walter "Bubba" Kight of New Orleans, LA and James Kight with wife Diane of Seguin, TX; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and great friends.
A visitation will be held in the Front Stateroom of Goetz Funeral Home on Sunday, November 20, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 pm in the Goetz Memorial Chapel with interment following at San Geronimo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the American Cancer Society or GRMC Hospice Services of Seguin.
