Jeff Watkins Victim of Heart Attack

Jefferson M. (Jeff) Watkins, 73, Garfield, died Wednesday at Memorial General Hospital. A cotton gin pioneer and businessman and civic worker. He died of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30pm Friday at the Hatch First Methodist Church. Reverend Jim Woods, pastor will be in charge of the service. The church choir will provide music.

Burial under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home of Hatch will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full Masonic rites will be conducted at the cemetery.

A resident of the Dona Ana community for 41 years, Mr. Watkins was the manager of the Garfield Co-op Gin the time of his death. He was born October 31, 1894 in Rising Star, Texas. He was married to the former Della Sanchez, who survives him in Las Cruces.

Mr. Watkins came to Garfield in 1926 and owned the first cotton gin in the area.
