Born as Freda Beatrice Salyer, she was usually known as Bea, or by the family nickname of Toddy. She was the daughter of Everette Garland Salyer & Frances Ester Bays Salyer. Bea married Paul LaVaughn Pratt, the son of William & Lucy Johnson Pratt. Their marriage ended in divorce, in 1946.

She amrried Lowell Everett Alexander, the son of Joseph Martin Alexander & Bertha Agnes Jarrett Alexander. The couple moved their blended family to California.

•Obituary-Beatrice (Bea) F. Alexander Tyler, 80, who will be remembered for her civic work in the Mountain Area, died on August 26 in a Fresno hospital. She died a day following the death of her husband, Art Tyler.

Mrs. Tyler was born in Boston, Indiana, on December 11, 1919. After marrying Lowell Alexander, she moved to Corcoran in 1946 where the couple reared three children. She and her husband started Corcoran Refrigeration which was later converted to a coin-operated laundry. She was office manager and bookkeeper for the businesses.

While in Corcoran, she was active in the Corcoran Fire Department Auxiliary and a charter member of the Soroptimist Club of Corcoran, serving in all offices.

The couple moved to Cedar Valley in 1972 where Mr. Alexander founded the Cedar Valley Fire Department, and she started its auxiliary. Beginning in 1975, she was a volunteer ambulance attendant for Sierra Ambulance Service for six years and chaired the fund-raising drive to purchase a Jaws of Life for Oakhurst fire Department.

In 1982, the then Mrs. Alexander was on the committee to do research on a new senior center to be located in Oakhurst and subsequently served as president of the Sierra Senior Society in 1985 and 1992. She was active on the Madera County Council on Aging for many years. She was also on the Fresno Madera Area Agency on Aging for four years, serving on its legislative and nutrition committees and its housing commission. She and Mr. Alexander were grand marshals of the Sierra Mountaineer Days in 1988.

After Mr. Alexander died, she married long-time friend Art Tyler in 1994. Among her many honors, she was chosen Woman of the Year by the Eastern Madera Chamber of Commerce in 1986 as well as receiving the Woman of Distinction award from Soroptimist International of the Sierra. Mrs. Tyler also received the Volunteer Community Service Award of Fresno and Madera counties for 1998.

Mrs. Tyler is survived by a daughter and two sons. She leaves her sister, Wilma Turk of Tulare. She also leaves six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
