Dorothy Verran Scobee 90 of Kansas City north died Monday afternoon, June 25, at the Pleasant Valley Manor, nursing home.
She was born in Negaunee, Michigan to William John Phillips and Ethel May Verran on Jan 2, 1922. The family moved to Mosby, Mo. in 1923, where her father was opening the Mosby mine. When the mine was opened and it was time to return home, the family didn't have the money to go, so they bought and settled on a section of the Winn farm in Kansas City north, where she grew up in a house purchased from Sears and Roebuck, and where her parents lived for over 50 years.
She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1939 and married William Howard Scobee in 1941.
She was employed at Southwestern Bell for over 30 years and retired in 1986.
She was a telephone company Pioneer, a charter member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church and their first organist for 8 years, and a member of the service guild and the president of it for a year.
Survivors include her two daughters, Mrs. Sandra Boustead and Mrs. Philip (Joanne) Morgan, a son-in-law, Danny Hennessy, Houston, Tx., 5 grandchildren, Mrs. Amy Kingsolver, Robert (Hiedi) Hennessy, Mrs. Sean (Julie) Hensley, Misses Felicia Morgan and Brittany Morgan, 14 great grandchildren, Briana, Danika, Kierra, and Braeden Kingsolver and Mrs. Tanner (Mikaela) Newton and Miss Amia Ortega, Aleah, Alyssa, Jaegar, Malaina & Keaton Hensley, Justin Poquette, Alexxis and Jerrod Hennessy. 3 step great grandchildren, and 5 step-great great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Delores Phillips, of Gladstone, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, her parents, two brothers, Robert O. Phillips and William Harold Phillips, a son-in-law, John W. Boustead, Jr., and a grandson-in-law, Dennis Kingsolver.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church with burial in East Slope Memorial Gardens in Riverside, Missouri. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the McGilley funeral home on Vivion Road, Kansas City North.
