Tragic Death of George Tickner
Fatally Injured by Fall of 35 Feet While Engaged Constructing New Silo
George S. Tickner, respected resident of this city who conducted the city's dray line, was the victim of a fatal accident on the farm of Werner Graupmann last Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock, where he was assisting in the construction of a silo, when the scaffolding gave way and he was precipitated 35 feet into the pit. Elmer Hughes and Urban Murphy who were working with him clung to the structure and consequently saved themselves from falling.
The unfortunate man was conveyed to the Municipal Hospital where examination revealed that he had sustained fractures of the chest, ribs and pelvis and other injury. He remained conscious until 2:30 that afternoon, and passed away at 3:45 o'clock.
George Stillman Tickner was aged 67 years, 10 months and 2 days. He was born in Glencoe October 19, 1874, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Tickner, pioneers of this city. He was educated in the public school grades and Stevens Seminary. At the age of 17 years he entered the employ of the Milwaukee railroad with a bridge construction crew, but during the last 20 years has conducted the city dray line.
He was united in marriage 36 years ago to Clara La Braun who preceded him to the grave eight years ago. He survived by one daughter and three sons, namely, Mrs. Clarence Rannow (Lucille) of Hutchinson; Harold of Oakes, N.D., Melvin who is in the U.S. Army in the Hawaiian
Islands, and Erwin of Glencoe. One son, Stillman, died October 21, 1929.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, and also two sisters and five brothers. They are Mrs. Bertha Trent, Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Edyth Peterman, Puyallup, Wash.; Clarence, Dana, Martin and John of Minneapolis; and William of Sand Beach, Sask., Canada.
The late Mr. Tickner is also survived by his aged mother, Mrs. Ezra Tickner who lives at Spokane, Washington.
Funeral services were held from the Borkenhagen Funeral Chapel at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. T. C. McQueen of Duluth, former pastor of the Congregational church. At the services Mrs. Frank Reimers and Miss Annamarie Tudhope sang "Rock of Ages" and "The End of the Road," with pianoforte accompaniment by Mrs. Joseph Pott.
Interment was in the Glencoe cemetery. The pallbearers were Louis Goulet, Wm. Mutchler, Ray Mayer, Erwin Howe, Erwin Michaelis and Glenn Roder.
Among those from distant points in attendance at the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Tickner and daughter, Betty, of Oakes, N.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tickner, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Tickner and daughter, Margaret, Mr. and Mrs. Dana Tickner and son, Richard, John Tickner, Mrs. Clarence Bernice, Mrs. Marcella Demzene and Mrs. Gens and sister Lillian, all of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Klemstien of Lidgerwood, N.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Braun of Buffalo, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. James Butler, Mrs. Wm. Braun and Mrs. Margaret Dirkswhger all of Maple Lake, Minn.
