George Rogers (1931-2011)


Graveside services for George Rogers, age 79, of Sherman, TX. will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Monday, September 26, 2011 at the Fairview Cemetery in Denison, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, TX.

He passed away on Friday, September 23, 2011 at the Clyde W. Cosper Veterans Home in Bonham, TX.

George was born on November 24, 1931 the son of George Roman Rogers and Ethel Ann Smith Rogers. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War before being honorably discharged in 1956. He married Rotha Irene Morrow on December 5, 1970 and she preceded him in death. George worked for the Sherman Fire Department, Sherman Steel and Wire and Robert Minshew. He loved fishing and playing bingo and was a member of VFW, AMVETS and the American Legion.

He is survived by his brother Delmar Rogers and wife Joan of Sherman, TX., step-grandson, Wade Webster of Richardson, TX., nephew, Dennis Rogers Sr. and wife Molly of Sherman, TX., two great-nieces, Candi Hatch and Kelly Jennings both of Pottsboro, TX., two great-nephews, Dennis Rogers Jr. and Wesley Rogers both of Sherman, TX. and special cousins, Carl Wayne Baker and Daniel Wayne Smith. He is also survived by numerous other cousins and great nieces.

George was preceded in death by his parents, wife, niece, Ginger Jennings Shaw, uncles, Joseph "Bud" Smith and Tinker Smith.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. George and the staff of Clyde W.Cosper and Dr. Brown and the staff at Red Regional Hospital for all the excellent care and concern that was given to George.
