~ Obituary as printed, Independence Daily Reporter, November 12, 1960:
Thomas Calvin Taylor, 97, superintendent of the Montgomery County poor farm 16 years, died unexpectedly at 2:45 o'clock Saturday morning in Mercy Hospital. He had been admitted to the hospital Friday evening. Mr. Taylor had been downtown earlier in the week.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Potts Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Oxley, pastor of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.
Mr. Taylor was born on January 29, 1863 at Fall River. He was a son of John and Nancy Taylor. He was married to Cora Ollie Taylor (maiden and married name) at Fredonia. To the union was born a daughter, Adah Belle. Both preceded Mr. Taylor in death.
In 1900 Mr. Taylor and Miss Nellie Mae Swisher were united in marriage at Fredonia. They moved to the Independence area and located in District 40 where they farmed until his appointment as superintendent of the poor farm. Mrs. Taylor preceded her husband in death in 1932.
In 1946, Mr. Taylor came to Independence to make his home with a daughter, Mrs. Ethel V. Johnson, at 621 S. 10th. For several years he operated a service station on S. 10th, but two years ago he disposed of his interest. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Emma Avery, rural Independence, and Mrs. Johnson. Six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive.

Preceding Mr. Taylor in death were seven brothers and a sister.
