Opal Sanders, 89, of Lodi, died Feb. 26 in a local convalescent hospital of natural causes. She was born Opal Hughes on Sept. 25, 1912, in Garbin County, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Sanders moved to St. Louis, Mo., and married Roy E. King on Dec. 4, 1932. They moved to Lodi in 1942 and moved to San Diego in 1954. Her husband Roy died in 1970. She moved to Manteca and married Claude Sanders in 1976 and they resided there until 1991 when they moved to Lodi.

She was a member of the Church of Christ on Garfield Street. She enjoyed watching old western movies, being with her grandchildren and gardening.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth King of Lodi; daughter, Wynona King of Auburn; sisters, Bertha Howard of Sacramento and Ida Fann of Carson City, Nev.; three grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Roy E. King in 1970 and Claude Sanders in 1994; and seven brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cherokee Memorial Park with Jimmy Winchester and Alan Bonifay of the Church of Christ officiating.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the Lodi Funeral Home.

Lodi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
