He was married to Eula Vance Loftis and was director of sales for the South Boston Tobacco Market for many years. He was an organizer of the Halifax County Rescue Squad and formerly on the Halifax County Board of Supervisors. He was an elder and clerk fo the Halifax Presbyterian Church, and was a 69-year member of the South Boston Lions Club. He was an active Shriner and Mason.
Survived by his wife, Eula Vance Loftis of South Boston; his stepson, Sanford Vance of Virginia Beach; sister, Nancy L. Powell of Newport News; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with Masonic Rites Wednesday, May 23, 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston. Memorial donations to Halifax Presbyterian Church, 105 Cedar Lane, Halifax, Va. 24558. Arrangements by Powell Funeral Home, South Boston, Va.
