Parents: Herman Henry Huck (b. 29 July 1880, Dixon, Solano Co., CA; d. 29 June 1948, Walla Walla, Walla Walla Co., Washington) and Nancy (Nina) Rebecca Davis (they later divorced).

Gertrude was born one mile north of the small, wind-swept town of Wasco, Oregon. She was the second child of seven offspring.

Gertrude was the granddaughter of Caesar Carl Deiderick and Louisa Henke Huck who were among the earliest settlers of northern Sherman County. Caesar established a wheat ranch and competed with the early ranchers in harvesting wheat with 18-horse team-drawn harvest-combines. Plentiful crops and hard work resulted in large, strong families of which the Hucks were among those of the 1880s in the Sherman County areas.

She attended the grade school at Webfoot one-room school, then on to Wasco High School where she graduated with honors as valedictorian.

Gertrude met Joseph A. Mee and in September 22, 1925, they were married in Vancouver, Washington.

She was a homemaker adept in cooking, bookkeeping, as well as a waitress, and several other occupations, not to exclude a telephone conversationalist which she was known for. She made quilts, loved crocheting, baking, as well as part-time gardening. Her quilting days in later years turned into afghan-making due to failing eye-sight. She was noted for her charitable work anhd contributions.

Gertrude was a member of the First Christian Church; active in The Dalles Garden Club; a lifetime member of Azelea Rebekah Lodge of Wasco; and was the current president of Columbia Chapter of the Blind. She was a member of the Sherman County Historical Society, Mill Creek Grange, Senior Citizen Center, Women of the Moose Lodge, Wasco County Pioneer Association and the Genealogy Society.

Gertrude was a Charter Life Member of The Lucky Mee Family Association, an international surname organization founded by her first son, Joseph W. Mee in 1977.

Her husband Joseph preceded her in death April, 1985; second son Donald in March 1990; a grandson, Curtis Dayley in March, 1969; and a great-grandson, Matthew Dayley in 1989.

Among many nieces and nephews, she leaves behind the following survivors: four sons: Joseph W., El Paso, TX; Norman D., The Dalles, Oregon; Robert A. of Lewiston, Idaho; and Gordon E., Klamath Falls, Oregon; four daughters: Dorothy M. Dayley, La Grande, Oregon; Donna M. Hackler, Mary L. Batty, and Doris E. Mee all of The Dalles, Oregon; 27 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her last brother, Francis L. Huck of Bay City, Oregon.

Entombment services were held at The Dalles IOOF Mausoleum immediately following her funeral service which was held on Saturday, Nov. 21, 1992. A remembrance wake was held at the Moose Lodge.

Casketbearers: Paul W. Mee, Lonnie E. Dayley, Kraig D. Batty, Doug Zaugg, Gordon J. Mee, Anthony B. Batty, Alan C. Mee, Brett R. Mee, David J. Mee, Clifford Dayley, Christian L. Batty, Allen Zaugg, Donald E. Mee, Joseph A. Mee II, Andrew J. Mee and Ricky E. Mee.
