Dr. Emma Sutro Merritt, daughter of the late Adolph Sutro, California-Nevada mining millionaire and one-time mayor of San Francisco, died at the old Sutro mansion overlooking the Golden Gate here today. Dr. Merritt, who retired from the practice of medicine after the death of her father In 1898 to manage his estate, was 82 years old. With her death, the city acquired the title to Sutro Heights, on which the mansion is located. Some years ago Dr, Merritt deeded the heights to the city, with the provision she is allowed to occupy the home until her death.
