From the Oklahoman, 2/18/1987: FLEMING, Ava Lee, 101, passed away Feb. 16, 1987 at a local nursing home. Born Aug. 4, 1885 in Alabama and moved with her family as a small child to Texas. She attended North Texas Teachers College at Commerce, TX. Came to Indian Terriorory before Oklahoma was a state to teach school in south central Okla. Married Joseph E. Fleming, a lawyer and Presbyterian minister. After his death in 1954, she came to OKC to live with her daughter and family, the Andrew Walkers. She was active in Central Presbyterian Church and Church of the Savior, where she taught Sunday School, led Bible studies, participated in the Women's Circle and the Quilters Group, and was a member of the Ione Book Club. Surviors are sons, Fred Fleming of OKC, John Fleming of Phoenix, AZ, daughter, Mary Jo Walker of Bethany; 11 grandchildren, 22 great granchildren, 6 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ball of Allen, TX. Services 3 pm Thursday, at the Church of the Savior, 5600 NW 63, with Rev. John Ed Withers and Rev. Eldon Schmidt officiating. Graveside service 3 pm Friday, Smithville, OK Cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to Church of the Savior, OKC.
