HOUSTON -- Memorial services were held for retired Naval Reserve Commander Leo J. Cannon, 75, of Gainesville, Fla., formerly of South River, N.J., who died here Jan. 6 in the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Arrangements were by the Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick, N.J. Mr. Cannon was employed with the Panama Canal Co., Panama City, Panama, before retiring retiring in 1987. He was previously a sales and systems analyst for IBM in Panama City for nine years. A 1953 graduate of the Naval Academy, he served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War on several ships, including on President Harry S. Trumans yacht, the USS Williamsburg. Mr. Cannon attained the rank of commander. Born in Perth Amboy, N.J., he lived in South River and Panama before moving to Gainesville in 1987. Surviving are his wife, Sarita; daughters, Leslie Ann Downey, Victoria Ann Webb and Meredith Stroen; sisters, Margaret Hall, Mary Jane Kohlhepp and Barbara Ann ODonnell, and brothers, Brian Cannon and ret. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. James J. Cannon.
