DIEHL, Richard Carl -- Richard Carl DIEHL, 86, of 2694 167th Street, Fairfield died at his home 7:30 A.M. Wednesday, December 28, 2005.

Born October 5, 1919, at Oneida, Illinois, he was the son of Carl Cassel & Ruth Frances JACOBS DIEHL. The family moved to the Fairfield area when Richard was 5 years old.

He graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1938. He farmed his entire life and had played baseball for the Salina Baseball Team.

He married Viola Louise HAWK on May 21, 1944, at the First Lutheran parsonage in Fairfield.

He was a member of the Bethesda Methodist Church, the N.F.O. and Farm Bureau.

Deceased family members include his parents and 2 brothers, Darrell and Alan DIEHL.

Surviving are his wife; 5 children: Dennis DIEHL, Vivian DIEHL and Melvin and his wife Judy DIEHL, all of Fairfield; Jeanette ROUNKLES and her husband Kent of Ogden, Utah and Ron DIEHL of Des Moines; 8 grandchildren: Casey, Matt, Shawna DIEHL and Patrick, Jared, David, Nathaniel and Laura PRICKETT; 11 great grandchildren; and his sister Marjorie WORLEY of Fairfield.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield with Reverend Mike Metz officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. at the Raymond Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of Central Iowa or to the Evergreen Cemetery Association.

Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
