Fanny M. "Fran" Summers, 67, of Thompsonville, died at 6:20 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2006 at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Marion, IL.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, IL. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Dean Hammonds officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Etna Cemetery, Akin, IL with military rites performed by the Thompsonville American Legion.
Mrs. Summers was born April 16, 1939 in Tilton, IL, the daughter of Chester and Opal Irene (Lyons) Mikel. She married Huston "Pete" Summers on Feb. 7, 1960 and he survives.
She was a retired nurse's aide and an U.S. Army veteran. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Thompsonville, IL. She enjoyed playing bingo, reading, and painting pictures. She was a born again believer that loved the Lord.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Huston "Pete" Summers, three daughters, Beth Reed and husband Jimmy, West City, IL, Sharon Summers, Lubbock, TX, Dotty Mitchell, Marion, IL, one son, David Summers and wife Tammy, Akin, IL, nine grandchildren, Preston Reed and wife Alisha, Harrisburg, IL, Nathan, Neva, Eli, and Mikaila Reed, all of West City, IL, Jacob and Jessica Mitchell, both of Marion, IL, Matthew and Whitney Summers, both of Akin, IL, a great-grandson, Jordan Pettit, West City, IL, several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Summers was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Dianna Lynn Summers, a brother, Ronnie Mikel.
