BARRE CITY - Donald Elbert Abar, 65, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.
Born in Randolph, May 23, 1944, he was the son of Daniel and Beulah (Towne) Abar and had attended Northfield High School.
In earlier years he had worked as an auto mechanic and a truck driver. Bowling, fishing and scenic drives were special times.
He served with the United States Army as a driver and mechanic. He was stationed in Korea and Germany.
He had been affiliated with the Methodist Church in Northfield and belonged to the Barre Moose Lodge #1391.
Survivors include his mother, Beulah Abar of the North Barre Manor, two sisters; a brother, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at a time to be announced at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. There are no calling hours.
