M. Albert Abreu, 84, of Rockland, formerly of Hingham, died Monday at his home after a period of failing health. He was born in Easton, son of the late Manuel and Piedade (Viera) Abreu. He was raised and educated in Easton graduating from Oliver Ames High School. Al was a proud veteran of our nation's Armed Services, serving in the U.S. Navy. After completing his Navy service, Al attended Villanova University, and while there, served as Editor in Chief of the school newspaper. After graduating from Villanova with a degree in Economics in 1950, Al went to work for Cooper and Lybrand Co. in Boston, after which time he earned his C.P.A. He later went on to be the Vice President of Finance and Administration for several different companies including, Electric Specialties in Boston, Rollform Products of Boston, Nuclear Metals in Concord, and Globe Rubber Works in Rockland. Al was a member of the Boston Baptist Society, and was the Assistant Treasurer, and Treasurer of the First Baptist Church in Abington for 15 years. Al was an avid sports fan, and loved to play golf. He also coached youth baseball and basketball in Abington for many years. Al was the husband of Shirley E. (Letourneau) Abreu of Rockland and the late Dolores Abreu of Hingham. He was "Dad" to Kathleen Gordon of Buzzards Bay, Marybeth Michaelson of Plymouth, David Abreu of Plymouth, Thomas Abreu of Canton, Paul Michael Abreu of Norton, Richard Perry of East Bridgewater and Michael Perry of West Virginia. He was brother to Isabelle Barry of Bridgewater, Bertha Abreu of Brockton, Raymond Abreu of Plymouth and the late Mary O'Connell. He was "Papa" and "Avo" to 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He also had many nieces and nephews. The Abreu family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate Alberts life Thursday, June 16, 2011, in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland, from 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated Friday, June 17, 2011, at 1 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Abington.
