R.D. Wilson, 88 of Fargo, Texas, died on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Wilbarger St. Church of Christ. Officiating will be Kenneth Evans, Joe Dale Wilson. Interment will be in Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

R.D. was born March 10, 1923, in Paris, Texas; He was the son of the late Roy Denton Wilson and the late Hattie Lee Bryan Wilson. He married Nona Ann Nickel on March 4, 1944 in Thalia, Texas. She preceded him in death on March 11, 1991. Together they had four children: Joe Dale &Wife Ann Wilson of Vernon, TX., Dee Ann & husband Richard Endsley of Mt. Vernon, IL; Ronnie & wife Ann Wilson of Vernon, Texas; and Sherry & husband Steve Bigham of Lubbock, Texas. He had 14 grandchildren; Denny & wife Robyn Wilson, Amy & Husband Eric Hardesty, Jimmy & wife Tiffany Wilson, Joel Wilson, Dana Wilson, Richele & Husband Tom Tompkins, Tammy & Husband Bill Beckham, Ryan & Wife Christine Endsley, Joe Don & Wife Holly Wilson, David & Wife Rhemy Wilson, Shawn & Wife Sharron Bigham, Bryan & Wife Diana Bigham, Stephanie & husband Graig Fancher, and Tyler and Wife Bethany Bigham; 28 great-grandchildren; 20 nieces; 9 nephews and 3 sisters; Mary Evelyn Killian of Vernon, Texas, Helen & Husband Wes Haney of Marble Falls, Texas, and Jerri Jeffres of Victoria, Texas.

He later married Marilyn Newth Wilson in March of 1998 and has two stepchildren, son, David Newth, and daughter, Judy & husband Tommy Payne; 4 step-grandchildren; Ashley Newth, Calley & Jory Runnels, Cory & Billy Edwards, T.J. & Alison Payne and five step-great-grandchildren Cutter, Tripp, Bax, Brynlee and Tynslie.

In 1926, the family moved to Wilbarger County, settling on a farm in Fargo. He was a graduate of Northside High School in 1941. Mr. Wilson was a member of the Wilbarger County School Board, ASCS Board for nine years, and chairman of the Northside Livestock Show for 40 years and worked with Wilbarger County Livestock Show for 60 years. He was named Outstanding Rural Citizen in 1975, received the Northside Honorary Chapter Farmer Award on two occasions. In 1989, he received the Wilbarger County Friend of 4-H Award and in 2003 was named Citizen of the Year.

Mr. Wilson attended the Fargo Church of Christ and served first as a deacon and then as an elder for 43 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Roy D. Wilson and Hattie Lee Wilson; brothers, Bryan Wilson and Donald Wilson; two nieces and five nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 7 to 8 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral.

Memorials can be made to Fargo Church of Christ or Hospice of Wichita Falls.

Pallbearers will be Denny Wilson, Jimmy Wilson, Joel Wilson, Ryan Endsley, Joe Don Wilson, David Wilson, Shawn Bigham, Bryan Bigham, and Tyler Bigham.
