John L. Kughn was aged 70, well known resident of Center township and a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Jury commissioner, died Sunday morning, Sept. 8, 1929, at 10:30 o'clock at the home of his sister, Mrs. George Carpenter, of Rogersville. Mr. Kughn had not been in health for some time and a few weeks ago suffered a severe heart attack in front of the court house. Mr. Kughn was born in Jackson township, a son of Jackson and Eliza Kughn, deceased, and had spent all his life in farming. Mr. Kughn was making his second race for nomination for jury commissioner at the time of his death. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Episcopal church and of the Knights of Pythias of Pine Bank.

Mr. Kughn was married three times, his third wife, Mrs. Minnie Orndoff Kughn, surviving. His first wife was Mary Knight, and children surviving by this marriage are Abram Kughn, of Bluff, and Mrs. Zella Syphers, of Waynesburg. His second wife was Martha White and by this union he leaves one daughter and ????ns; Mrs. Millie Lightner, of ???ok; Wesley Kughn, of Oak For??? and David Kughn, of Blacksville, ??brother and two sisters also survive namely, George Kughn, of Rogersville; Mrs. Rachel Ellen Carpenter, in whose home his death occurred, and Mrs. Mary Alice Carpenter, of Pine Bank. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon. Short services will be held in the Carpenter home, Rogersville, at 10'clock, followed by further services at 1:30 in the Rogersville Methodist Protestant church. The services will be conducted by Rev. Francis G. Viele, of Waynesburg. Interment will be in Rosemont cemetery, Rogersville.
