John N. Canon, 83
GREAT BARRINGTON -- John Northrup Canon, 83, of 6 Muddy Circle, formerly of 109 Main Road, Tyringham, died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Tyringham on Dec. 6, 1914, son of Clifford and Abigal (sic) Dorcas Garfield Canon, he attended schools in Tyringham and was a 1932 graduate of Lee High School and a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Stockbridge School of Agriculture.

After graduating from UMass, Mr. Canon returned to the family farm in Tyringham, where he worked until 1964. He then joined his brother, W. Garfield Canon, at Canon Electric in Lee as an apprentice electrician. He retired in 1975.

As a teen-ager, he was a member of a 4-H club and won many awards for his show cattle. He enjoyed his home, gardening and fishing.

His wife, the former Eleanor G. Grew, whom he married Oct. 7, 1939, in Tyringham, died Feb. 12, 1995.

Besides his brother, of Lee, he leaves a son, John G. Canon of Clackamas, Ore.; a daughter, Mrs. Jennifer a. Storti of Great Barrington, with whom he had resided since November; a sister, Miss Carolyn G. Canon of Tyringham; and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service will be held Friday morning at 11 at Tyringham Union Church, with the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor of the First Congregational Church in Great Barrington, officiating. Burial will follow in Tyringham Cemetery. Friends wishing may make donations to the Lee Visiting Nurse Association in care of KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 3 Main St., Lee, which is in charge of arrangements.
