Houston Chronicle, April 24, 2002:

Ronald Edwin Cates, age 53, of Onalaska, TX, died on April 22, 2002 at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX. Mr. Cates was born on August 9, 1948 in Richland, Washington, the son of Edwin C. Cates and Carrie L. Murray Cates. He served in the Army and was a member of First Baptist Church in Onalaska, TX.

Mr. Cates is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Penny Bowen Cates of Onalaska; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Dwayne Boudreaux of Orange, TX; son, Steven Cates of Austin, TX; grandson, Coleton Boudreaux; and granddaughter, Haley Boudreaux of Orange, TX; brother, David Cates of Kennewick, WA; three sisters, Cindy Ely and Kadi Chadwick of Kennewick, WA, and Susan Cates of Richland, WA; and numerous other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Onalaska at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2002. Reverend Don Wilkey will conduct service. Military Honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #8568.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center-Leukemia Research, P.O. Box 297153, Houston, TX 77297. Cochran Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. Cochran Funeral Home, Livingston, Texas, 936-327-2158.
