"Virginia Hawse Spitzer, 90, formerly of Linville, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Sunnyside Retirement Home in Harrisonburg, where she had lived for the past two years.
Mrs. Spitzer was born April 22, 1913, in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late Marion D. Hawse Sr. and Hortense "Ortie" Trumbo Hawse.
She was employed at Rockingham Poultry and Heatwole's Hatchery. She was a member of the Cherry Grove United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Ladies' Aid Society.
On Oct. 21, 1933, she married Emmer W. Spitzer, who preceded her in death July 13, 1995.
She is survived by a daughter, a son, a brother, four grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
The Rev. Steve McMillion will conduct a graveside service 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cherry Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg or at the home of her daughter, 9655 Woodlands Church Road in Linville, at any time.
