Arminta Lawrence was born to John and Rhoda Sanford Lawrence in Upper Ontario, Canada on 5 December 1831. She lived there until she was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 6 February 1837. Her parents were also baptized on the same day.

Arminta and her parents went to Missouri in 1838. Her grandfather, Solomon Sanford, died on 23 April 1847 in Kitley Leeds, Ontario, Canada. His wife Eleanor Barry Sanford remained there. Her grandfather was sickly and couldn't travel with Arminta and her parents. In Missouri, the family shared in the mob troubles and expulsion of the Mormons in 1839. These were trying times and they didn't know where they would live or what they would eat. They settled in Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois. They lived there amid all the trials and tribulations the Saints endured until they were again forced to move from Nauvoo, Illinois because of their religious faith.

Arminta's father died on 13 December 1846 in Winter Quarters, (now Florence), Nebraska. Her mother, Rhoda came to Lehi, Utah.

During this time, Arminta Adealy Lawrence met and married Thomas Ashton. She became his third wife after his two previous spouses had died from swamp fever. They married on 17 February 1851 at Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa and emigrated to Utah the same year settling in Lehi, Utah on 6 Oct 1851.

Arminta was the mother of eleven children: Thomas, Rhoda Jane, Esther, James, Eleanor, Henry, Henrietta, (who were twins), Emma, William, Daniel and Orin. Three of her children preceded her into the spirit world.

She raised and cared for fourteen children, four by her husbands first wife, Mary, and John Mills Ashton, the son of his second marriage to Sarah Mills. She also raised a grand daughter.

She would take her family and glean wool from the bushes that the sheep had rubbed against. She would wash, card, spin and weave it into cloth and make clothes from it for her family. She also wove cloth and made carpets for others. She burned greasewood, gathered the ashes, leached them and used them to make soap in place of lye. She also helped in the grasshopper war.

Arminta was an active member of the Mormon Church. She taught in Relief Society, Sunday School and M.I.A. She was always willing and ready to help the poor and nurse the sick due to her charitable disposition.

Arminta died in Lehi, Utah on 10 June 1891 at the age of 59 years, 6 months and 5 days.
