PETERSBURG - Jimmie Lou Wilson, 84, died Friday, April 1, 2011.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Petersburg Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. in First United Methodist Church in Petersburg with the Rev. Lee Couch officiating. Arrangements are by Sanders Funeral Home of Lubbock.

The youngest of five children, Jimmie was born Aug. 7, 1926, to Luther and Zella Thomas. She was raised in Grassland, graduated from Tahoka High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from McMurry University, where she met her husband, J. N. "Pete" Wilson. The couple married Aug. 14, 1947.

Jimmie devoted her personal life to her husband, until his death in 1977, and their two daughters, Cindy Scarborough and Cathy Wilson. She dedicated 35 years of her professional life to teaching, mostly fifth grade, in Avoca, Abernathy and Petersburg. Jimmie was a member of First United Methodist Church in Petersburg and the Texas Retired Teacher's Association.

Jimmie was a lady of grace and dignity and was a humble servant to others. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge. One of her favorite pasttimes was watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports. She loved relaxing in Ruidoso, N.M., and spending cherished moments with family and close, lifelong friends.

The family would like to express our great appreciation to the wonderful and loving caregivers at the Carillon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Cindy and husband Jack of Lubbock and Cathy of Canyon. Known as "Ranny" to her grandchildren and "G.G." to her great-grandchildren, Jimmie gave and received much love and joy from Jill and husband Jay Jacobus and their children Jake, Jud and Justus; Stan and wife Amanda Scarborough and their children Banner, Hope and Lily; and Lee and husband Tory Bryant and their children Devyn and Zeke. She also leaves behind Mitzi Jordan, sister-in-law, and many more precious family and friends, including Elva Champion of Petersburg.

The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 190, Petersburg, TX 79250; Petersburg Cemetery, P.O. Box 270, Petersburg, TX 79250; or The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Northwest Texas Chapter, 3102 Maple Ave., Dallas, TX 75201.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home in Lubbock.
