NETTIE JEWELL COOPER COMBS, Tammie's Paternal Grandmother❤

Nettie Jewell COMBS, 79, of Fouke, Ark., died Friday May 3, 1985 at her home after a short illness. Services will be 2 P.M. Monday at Sylverino Baptist Church with the Revs. Boyce GREEN and William V. GARNER officiating. Burial will be in Sylverino Cemetery under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home. Mrs. COMBS was born May 9, 1905, at Fouke, Ark., and had been a lifetime resident. She was a member of Springhill Baptist Church and the widow of James Monroe COMBS, who died June 15, 1974.

Survivors include three sons, Ernest Monroe COMBS, Clarence Monty COMBS, Sr., Charles Wayne COMBS, Sr.; two brothers, Clarence COOPER of Heber Springs, Ark., and J. B. COOPER of Fouke; one sister, Lottie COOPER SUMMERS of Texarkana; five grandchildren, Charles Wayne COMBS, Jr., Tony DeWayne COMBS, Tammie Annette COMBS, Carol Jean COMBS, Clarence Monty COMBS, Jr., and one great-grandchild, Christopher COMBS.

Most people don't know the 'love story' between my grandparents, James Monroe Combs and Nettie Jewell Cooper-Combs. They worked together owning a grocery store, having a full time farm and later my grandfather working full time at the railroad in downtown Texarkana. They did everything together, loved life and their family. When my grandfather died unexpectedly while digging potatoes on the farm, it was so hard on all of us but, my grandmother was so deeply grief stricken that she couldn't get out of bed. I remember going into her room and trying to cheer her up. She wasn't even going to go to Pappaw's funeral, she didn't think she could take it. Finally, everyone convinced her that Pappaw would want her to be there. She said, "make me a hair appointment" and she made it to the funeral. It was a long time, those ten years that she had to live without him. I know they had a lovely reunion in Heaven. We dread losing our family members when they die, in reality we never lose them because only the body dies and their soul/spirit lives on. The eternal life is Heavenly...
