She attended shools in Privateer Township & majored in Latin & minored in English at Coker College, Hartsville, S. C. She attended summer schools at Furman and USC with graduate work in English. She also studied Old & New Testaments and elementary Greek at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. "Miss Cassie" was a member of the teachers' honor society, Delta Kappa Gamma, wherein she was past president of the Iota Chapter and chairman of a state committee of that society. She taught Latin, French, and English for 45 years in several schools in S. C. including Edmunds High School when I was there (where she also was involved in Journalism). She directed senior class plays for 20 years, and she was advisor for the yearbook and newspaper at Edmunds High in Sumter. And she wrote the two volume boone to genealogists and Sumter area history lovers, Historical Sketches of Sumter County.

Miss Cassie Nicholes was a wonderful, petite little lady who did so much for the students at Edmunds High School, Sumter, S. C. in the 1950s and 60s. In 1985, she received the Coker College Alumni Award (she was class of 1919).

The portrait picture is one of many you'd likely find in the on line Edmunds High School annuals at http://www.edmundshigh.com.
