Eddie became an Aeronautical Design Engineer. He worked for Chance Vought Aircraft during World War II on the F4U Corsair fighter production and engineering, and later Ling-Tempo-Vought Aerospace, Grand Prarie, TX, working on the A7 during the Vietnam War. In the 1980's he worked for Remcom Systems before joining Bell Helicopter and working on numberous projects including the V-STOL Vertical Tilt-Rotor prototype which became the V-22 Osprey. He retired from Vought Aircraft & Bell Helicopter in 1988 devoting his life to church work and the eldership.
A longtime resident of Oak Cliff & Duncanville, Eddie was an Elder at Hampton Place Church of Christ, Oak Cliff and at the Duncanville Church of Christ for over fifty years cumulatively. Eddie was a devout worker for Christ every day and served with the greatest of humility and patience.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Madelyn Vermel Burt Roden; daughters, Barbara Orsak and husband, Sammy, Kathye Hammontree and husband, Danny, Paula Rawlins and husband, Joey; grandchildren, Laura, Elisha, Stephen, Timothy, Ginna, Joe and Jon; great grandchildren, T.C., Katelyn, Brooklyn, Trevor, Tyler, Tenley, Trey, Ethan, Sydney, Makynna and Gianna.
Funeral Service was 2:00 PM, Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Duncanville Church of Christ, 402 W. Danieldale Road and burial at Laurel Land Memorial Park Dallas; the Jaynes Funeral Chapel, Duncanville, Texas provided funeral arrangements.
