This Memorial has been created at Grissard Cemetery, because other family descendants were buried here, and it was the closest cemetery in proximity to where he was living prior to his death. Anderson Fleming is buried in an unmarked grave probably near the Emison family plot and Carmack's who are buried in the back center about 20 feet from the back road.

Anderson Fleming was last found in the 1880 census record in Royal Township, El Paso, White County, Arkansas. His wife Julia Pauline Stull Fleming was paying taxes in 1890. So one can assume that Anderson Fleming died between 1880-1890.

Anderson Fleming was born to John Flemming and Mary Anderson Flemming in Lincoln Co., North Carolina. He was the grandson of Archibald Flemming and Nancy Agnes Reid Flemming. He was the great grandson of John Reid and Martha Little Reid.

Archibald Flemming of Rowan Co, NC names his son, John Flemming in his will and names John's descendants in the will. The will of Archibald Flemming is dated 26 April 1822 and was probated 1826 in Lincoln County, NC. It mentions his wife Nancy, (Daughter of John Reid), sons Archibald, James, John, and daughters,Martha Kilpatrick, (Wife of Hugh), Elizabeth Grice, Agnes Huddlestone, (Wife of James), Jane Guffey, (Wife of James), Margaret Smart, (Wife of Thomas), grandsons, Robert, Archibald, and Anderson Fleming, (Sons of John), and thier mother, Mary Fleming and James Guffey Fleming. Executors were William Little and Robert Fleming. Note: The name varies in spelling through the generations leaving an "m" out of Flemming to Fleming.

Anderson Fleming, born about 1812, the son of John Fleming and Mary Anderson Fleming is found on the 1840 census living in Lincoln County, North Carolina where his marriage to Sarah Barkley took place on April 20, 1839. Sarah Barkley was the daughter of Archibald C. Barkley and Elizabeth Hill Barkley of Lincoln County, NC, and the granddaughter of Robert Barkley and Eleanor Cathey.

John Died 11 April 1820 leaving a will naming wife Mary, eldest sons: Robert, Archibald, and Anderson and daughters: Jane, Nancy, and Martha. John Fleming and Mary Anderson were married May 8, 1797 in Lincoln Co., NC. They had six children.

1. Robert Fleming born 1798--married Polly Hill January 25, 1821 in Lincoln Co., NC

2. Jane Fleming born 1800---married George Smally October 20, 1813 in Rutherford Co., NC.

3. Nancy Fleming born 1803 married John Samuel Guffey March 26, 1829 in Lincoln Co., NC ; had seven children.

4. Archibald Fleming born 1804 married Elizabeth Cherry October 30, 1834 in Lincoln Co., NC --4 children. Second married Matilda Cherry January 14, 1850 Lincoln County, North Carolina and had 2 children.

6. Anderson Fleming born 1812 married Sarah Barkley born 1812 on April 20, 1839 in Lincoln Co., NC, 5 children, Sarah died between 1851 and 1860. 2nd married Julia Pauline Mrs. Stull on September 16, 1866 Gibson Co., Tn.

Anderson Fleming is named an heir in his father, John Fleming's will probated 1820 in Lincoln County, North Carolina and he is named an heir, as a grandson, of Archibald Fleming in his will probated 1826 in Lincoln county, North Carolina. This couple is surrounded by family of Fleming's and Barkley's living in Lincoln County, North Carolina. There are lots of marriage records and census records naming them. Anderson Fleming and Sarah Barkley had five children: Martha, born 1840; Mary Ella, born 1842; Ann R. born 1845; all three were born in Lincoln County, North Carolina, John, born 1847 in Gibson County, Tennessee; and Sarah Jane, born 1851 in Gibson County, Tennessee. I have found that members of the Fleming and Barkley families have migrated to Gibson County, Tennessee--perhaps some migrated to Tennessee at the same time that Anderson Fleming moved his family between 1845 and 1847. His daughter Ann was born in North Carolina in 1845 and his son John was born in Tennessee in 1847 giving proof they migrated during that time period. Anderson Fleming and his family are listed in the 1850 census in Gibson County, Tennessee. Anderson and Sarah had a daughter, Sarah Jane born in Tennessee in 1851 and that is the last time that we have Sarah Barkley documented. Sarah Barkley Fleming is not listed in the 1860 census record, so it is believed that she died between 1851 and 1860. The 1860 census lists Anderson Fleming with his five children and his wife, Sarah is missing. Anderson is found in the 1870 census with his 2nd wife Pauline. A marriage record for Anderson Fleming and Julia Pauline Mrs. Stull was found in Gibson County, Tennessee on September 16, 1866. Anderson Fleming left Gibson Co., Tennessee and moved to El Paso, Royal Township, White County, Arkansas and is found listed in Royal Township on the 1880 census with his wife listed as Julia P. Fleming. It is believed that Anderson Fleming traveled to Arkansas accompanied by the Carmack and Ford family in the spring of 1878 traveling up the White River with their wagons loaded on a barge and leaving the barge at Des Arc traveling to El Paso by wagon.

In 1890 J. P. Fleming has property taxes, I can only assume that Anderson Fleming has died sometime between 1880 census and the 1890 tax records, because Julia Pauline Fleming is paying taxes on the property in El Paso, White County, Arkansas in 1890.

The children born to Anderson Fleming and Sarah Barkley Fleming were:

1. Martha Fleming born 1840 in Lincoln Co., NC.--no records after 1860 census

2. Mary Ella Fleming born Jan 1842 in Lincoln Co., NC.--married a widower, John W. Emison, Sr.on November 22, 1883 in White Co., Ar. 2nd marriage--Thomas Vann,on November 10, 1912. Thomas Vann was a widower of Margaret Fleming. Mary Ella is buried at Cypress Valley Cemetery, Vilonia, Faulkner Co., Ar.

3. Ann R. Fleming born 1845 in Lincoln Co., NC--married Pellam Poinsett Carmack January 23, 1867 in Gibson Co., Tn--they had eight children.

4. John Fleming born 1847 in Gibson Co, Tn.

5. Sarah Jane Fleming born Jan 4, 1851 in Gallatin, Sumner Co., Tn---however, I think she may have been born in Gibson Co., Tn, because the family had been living in Gibson County, Tn and remained there until moving to Arkansas. Sarah Jane married Joseph Pybass Ford and William H. Pate, a widower. They are buried at Beebe Cemetery, Beebe, Ar.
