The family moved to Erie, where he graduated from Strong Vincent High School, and went on to the University of Alabama, graduating in 1936.
He became an IRS agent when he moved back to Erie, eventually becoming the agent-in-charge of the Erie office.
In 1956, he requested a transfer to Florida, and ended up in Fort Pierce, where he eventually retired. For the next 20-odd years, he did tax returns for many people in the community who relied on his IRS experience year after year.
He died a month after the 911 tragedy in 2001 at the age of 87. He was predeceased by his wife, Angela, who died of cancer in 1970, at the age of 50.
John is survived by his daughters, Sherry Center and Mary Anne Huck, as well as hs sons, Mike Picano and John Picano, Jr.
