She was born March 13, 1931, in Brooksburg, the daughter of Edward and Isla Cuba Selig Bright. She was raised in Brooksburg and was a graduate of Central High School. She was employed for the Madison State Hospital as a psychiatric attendant for 20 years. She had worked earlier in life at the Hanover Nursing Center as an aid, as a telephone operator for the old Madison Telephone Company and in the laundry department at the old Bethel Boys Home in Muncie. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Madison and attended Faith Covenant Church. She enjoyed crafts, playing bingo and being with her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Annette Chisholm of Eminence, Ky., Mary Jean Burton of Hanover and Janice Burton of Madison; two sons, James Edward Burton and Melvin Douglas "Doug" Burton both of Madison; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Burton, whom she married March 17, 1951, and who died Sept. 16, 1990; her parents; two sisters, Laverne Zapp and Jeanette Jordan; and two brothers, Graham Bright and Bob Bright.
The funeral was at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial was in the Grandview Memorial Gardens.
