Hugh Garland Meem, son of Gen. Gilbert S. Meem, of Shenandoah county, died last Friday at Mt. Savage, M., at the residence of Mrs. Dr. Thompson, of typhoid fever, aged 25 years. Mr. Meem is the young man who at the risk of his own life, rescued last fall from the Allegany mines, near Frostburg, some forty miners who had been shut in the mines from an overflow of water. At this time he was civil engineer of the Consolidation Coal Company. His remains were taken to Lynchburg for interment.
