Forty-nine relatives and descendants of James Newman Baker met at the old family homestead, now the home of Mrs. C. P. Baker, north of Grapevine Lake Sunday.
Melvina Doyle Baker and her five children migrated to Texas from northern Georgia in 1850. She filed a claim for a homestead of 160 acres between Lewisville in Grapevine and settled there with her children. She died at the homestead in the 1880s.
Her son, James Newman Baker, married Louisa Griffis and brought his bride to the old family homestead where they lived until his death in about 1905. The couple had 10 children, all born on the homestead.
All 10 children of the couple are deceased but two widows of sons survive. They are Ada Simmons Baker, the widow of John T. Baker of Denton, and Artis Starling Baker, widow of C. P. Baker. Children of the couple were John, C.P., Will, Jule, Florence, Sam, Pearl, Jim, Effie and Flora....
