COLUMBUS — Mrs. Allie Mae Cornwell, 95, of Columbus, formerly of Sumter County, passed away at St. Francis Hospital early Friday morning, April 30, 2010. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010, in St. Andrews Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Lebanon Cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers.

Born November 29, 1914, she was a daughter of the late John Calhoun Wise Sr. and Eola Anderson Wise. She was a homemaker and a very active member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Pilot Club, Plains Homemakers Club, Plains PALLS Club and the Plains Garden Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the J.C. Wise Jr. Scholarship Fund at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 304 N. Bond St., Plains, Georgia 31780, or to any favorite charity.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Hardie Jo and James Rossitter of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., and Elizabeth Lane Brown of Columbus; a son and daughter-in-law John Woody Cornwell Sr. and Elaine of Newberry, S.C.; grandchildren Drew Kingery, Lynn Kingery Sanders, Miles and Shelly Erb, Woody Cornwell Jr., Mark and Kelly Cornwell, Lindsay Brown and Tim Ratliff, and Jamie Brown; great-grandchildren Kristen Kingery, Andrew Kingery, Esther Erb, Abigayle Ratliff, Harry Cornwell, Morgan Moss and Hardy Moss; a great-great-grandson Elijah Moss; a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joel Hardy Cornwell, a grandson Brian Kingery and siblings Margaret Wise, Elizabeth Wise, Loris Walker, Hilda Williams, Thomas Wise and J.C. Wise Jr.
