Gustavus Adolphus Glader was born to Anders and Elin Glader 3-Feb-1839 in Furuby parish, Sweden. He died 12-Mar-1922 and is buried in the Union Cemetery, Atwater, MN.

Gust served in the army during the Civil War. He was a member of the 3rd Minnesota infantry Regiment, Company D, recruited by Col Hans Mattson at age 22, on 4-Nov-1861. He was promoted to Sergeant and was discharged upon expiration of his tour of duty on 14-Nov-1864.

His first battle was at Tony River, Tennessee. He and his company were taken prisoners at Murfreesboro, TN, and were later paroled at St Louis, MO. They were sent back to Minnesota to participate in the Dakota Conflict. He was wounded at Yellow Medicine. The unit was reorganized and sent south again to participate in the final surrender of Vicksburg.

Gust moved to Kandiyohi County after the war and served as a county commissioner, state legislator, postmaster at Lake Elizabeth, and mayor of Atwater. he was also active in the Swedish Lutheran Church in Atwater, serving as secretary and as a deacon.
